Onboarding — get your shop set up in a few minutes

Who it's for

Onboarding is for the owner or manager setting up the shop for the very first time — the person who just signed up. It runs once, right after you create your account, and gets you from an empty shop to a working one: your workflow stages, your materials, your brand color, and (optionally) your shop email.

Where it fits

Onboarding is the front door. On a paid or trial plan, Wraptor won't let you into the dashboard until setup is finished — if it isn't, you're sent straight to the setup wizard. Everything you choose here becomes the starting point the rest of the app builds on: your shop type picks your job-board columns, your materials seed your inventory, your accent color themes every screen. You can always change all of it later in Settings. See workflow-map.md for the lifecycle and personas.md for the standard roles.

Overview

Setup is a short, guided wizard with a progress bar. It walks through:

  1. Shop type — Wrap, Tint, PPF/Protection, Print & Install, Sign Shop, or Full Service. This picks the workflow stages your jobs will move through and the features we recommend.
  2. Shop info — name, phone, address, website. Pre-fills your invoices, emails, and customer-facing pages.
  3. Team size — just so we can tailor the experience.
  4. WraptorMail — optionally claim a @wraptormail.com inbox so customer email lives inside Wraptor (you can skip and enable later).
  5. Materials — pick the brands and products you stock; we add them to your inventory.
  6. Accent color — the color for your buttons, links, and highlights across the app.
  7. Done — a recap of your new workflow and a few recommended features to try first.

You can Skip setup at any step — we'll still set you up with a sensible workflow and any materials you picked, so you're never dropped into an empty shop.

Screens & navigation

You reach onboarding automatically the first time you sign in (or any time setup isn't finished). It's a full-screen flow with a Skip setup — explore the app button in the corner and a progress bar across the top. Each step has Back and Continue; the last setup step is Finish Setup.

When you finish, the Done screen shows the workflow stages we created for your shop type and a short list of recommended features, with buttons to go to your dashboard and to set up materials & pricing rates.

If you ever skip or leave setup unfinished, Settings shows a small "Setup Incomplete" note that links you back here.

Capabilities

Get a working shop fast

  • Pick your shop type and get a ready-made workflow (job-board columns) tuned to it.
  • Seed your inventory with the materials you actually use.
  • Set your shop's name, contact details, and brand color in one pass.

Set up email (optional)

  • Claim a @wraptormail.com address so customer email lives inside Wraptor — or skip and turn it on later.

Skip without regret

  • Leave setup early and still land in a working shop with a default workflow.

Step-by-step tasks

  1. Run first-time setup

    1. Sign in for the first time — you'll land on the setup wizard automatically.
    2. Pick your shop type (this sets your workflow stages).
    3. Enter your shop name and any contact details.
    4. Choose your team size.
    5. Decide on WraptorMail — claim an address or skip.
    6. Select the materials you stock.
    7. Pick your accent color, then Finish Setup.
  2. Skip setup and explore first

    1. Click Skip setup — explore the app at any step.
    2. We'll still create a workflow and add any materials you selected, then drop you into the dashboard.
    3. Finish the rest later from Settings → Setup Incomplete.
  3. Finish setup later

    1. Open Settings; if setup isn't complete you'll see a "Setup Incomplete" note.
    2. Click it to return to the wizard and finish.

Settings & permissions

Who runs it Onboarding runs for the shop's first user — the owner/manager who signed up. There's no special permission to grant; it's simply the one-time setup that happens before the dashboard opens.

Plan notes

  • Onboarding applies to paid and trial shops. If your subscription isn't active, you'll be asked to pick a plan first.
  • WraptorMail (the in-app inbox) is a paid feature; claiming it during setup provisions your inbox. If that step has a hiccup, it won't block you from finishing — you can set email up later in Settings.
  • Directory-claimed free accounts skip onboarding and go straight to the marketing tools.

Tips & common pitfalls

  • Your shop type sets your workflow. Picking "Wrap" vs "Tint" vs "Full Service" gives you different job-board columns. You can rename or reorder stages later in Settings → Workflow, but choose the closest match now.
  • Skipping doesn't leave you empty. Skip and you still get a default workflow (full-service) and any materials you selected — so the board works from day one.
  • Re-running setup replaces your workflow stages. If you go back through onboarding later, it rebuilds your stages from the preset — any custom stages you made will be replaced. Jobs and customers are not deleted.
  • Email is optional and reversible. You can skip WraptorMail now and claim it anytime from Settings.
  • Accent color is just a starting point. Change your theme and accent whenever you like in Settings → Appearance.
  • The "Setup Incomplete" note is your way back. If you skipped, finish up from Settings whenever you're ready.
  • Settings — where everything you set here lives afterward (profile, appearance, workflow, locations); the "Setup Incomplete" banner links back to onboarding.
  • Plans — pick or confirm your subscription before setup; what each tier unlocks.
  • Jobs — the workflow stages you choose become your job-board columns.
  • Inventory — the materials you select seed your inventory.
  • Inbox — claim and configure your WraptorMail address.
  • Team — add the rest of your staff after setup.
